New nuclear at Wylfa?

“I never count my chickens but new nuclear at Wylfa is something I have campaigned on tirelessly and the comments from the PM this week are both positive and absolutely true.

I am determined to bring jobs and skilled employment to Ynys Môn which is why I campaigned for over three years for Anglesey to have Freeport status.

I regularly meet businesses in Westminster and take businesses like GE-Hitachi - around our island.

I am always immensely proud when people tell me that Ynys Môn now has a strong voice in the House of Commons.

I am working hard to ensure our island is front and centre in Westminster and on the global stage.

I met with Baroness Penn the Treasury Lord Minister responsible for green finance.

I raised green taxonomy and it’s vital role in bringing investment into the nuclear sector.

Great to bring GE-Hitachi (David Powell VP UK and Craig Jones VP UK Corporate team) the North of the island to visit Wylfa.

As Chair of the APPG for SMRs - Small Modular Reactors - I lead the campaign for SMRs.

I wrote to Rishi Sunak along with the support of over 50 other MPs urging the Prime Minister to push ahead with the bold new programme of nuclear power construction under the aegis of Great British Nuclear.

I welcome the news about a new Government Department for Energy Security and Net Zero - and I am optimistic that this energy and climate-focused department will work to deliver new nuclear and help deliver our net zero by 2050 target.

I spoke in the Autumn Statement and asked the Chancellor:
